Regional differences in outcome from subarachnoid haemorrhage: comparative audit.

چکیده
We found that 16% of all violent crimes in Sweden during 1988-2000 were committed by people who had hospital discharge diagnoses of alcohol misuse, and more than a tenth of all violent crimes were committed by patients diagnosed as having misused drugs. Treatment services aimed at alcohol and drug misusers can potentially reduce violent offending. The approach of population attributable risk is one way of exploring the relationship between substance misuse and violent crime. It assumes a causal relationship between the two and so estimates the maximum possible impact that any intervention might have. However, the co-occurrence of substance misuse and violent crime does not necessarily imply a simple causal relationship. Integrating mental health and substance misuse services leads to improved outcomes. This integration should be extended to the criminal justice system. The costs to the criminal justice system of drug related crime are enormous—for example, in the United Kingdom, a conservative estimate is £1bn ($1.8bn; €1.5bn) annually. Interventions to reduce the risk of violence in patients who misuse alcohol and drugs could be highly cost effective.

Cerebral vasospasm considered to be a serious cause of morbidity and mortality following subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH).Despite several available therapeutic options, current protocols do not prevent major consequences of vasospasm. Inflammation is believed to play an important role in post-haemorrhagic vasospasm. Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The aim of this study was to...

متن کاملAn audit of aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage: earlier resuscitation and surgery reduces inpatient stay and deaths from rebleeding.
OBJECTIVE To audit the outcome in patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) after a change in management strategy. METHODS A retrospective analysis of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage over a 20 month period (phase 1) was followed by a prospective analysis of patients presenting during the next 20 months (phase 2) in which a protocol driven management regime of immediate in...
متن کاملA subarachnoid haemorrhage-specific outcome tool.
Functional outcome after subarachnoid haemorrhage has traditionally been assessed using scales developed for other neurological conditions. The modified Rankin score and Glasgow Outcome Scale are most commonly used. Employment of these scales in subarachnoid haemorrhage is hampered by well recognized limitations. We set out to develop and validate a new condition-specific subarachnoid haemorrha...
متن کاملEvaluation of a newly introduced tonsillectomy operation record for the analysis of regional post-tonsillectomy bleed data: a quality improvement project at the London North West Healthcare NHS Trust
The primary objective of this audit and quality improvement project was to retrospectively analyse regional post-tonsillectomy haemorrhage data as per national recommendations. However, this process highlighted the need for high-quality routinely collected data; something that was not always available via retrospective audit and thus does not enable formal aetiological factor analyses. We there...
